Metanoia: More Than a Change of Opinion
There are small changes: a new look, new iPhone, a new Netflix series. And then there’s the radical change the Bible calls metanoia. It’s not just “feeling bad about sin”—it’s receiving a new mind, as if God installed a brand-new operating system.
Paul says it clearly: “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2). It’s not about putting makeup on the old life, but about embracing a whole new way of thinking aligned with God’s heart.
It’s like stepping into a “portal”: from seeing the world with human eyes to seeing it with the eyes of Christ. Imagine viewing your problems, your dreams, even your annoying neighbors through Jesus’ perspective! That’s metanoia: moving from “I think” to “Lord, what do You think?”
The good news is that this isn’t human effort. It’s the work of the Holy Spirit planting the mind of Christ in us (1 Corinthians 2:16). Our part is to surrender, listen, and obey.
Reflection Questions:
- In what area of your life do you need a “spiritual software update”?
- Do you usually see things through your own logic or through God’s perspective?
Challenge:
Before bed, pray a simple prayer: “Lord, renew my mind. Teach me to think like You.” Then, write down one situation from your day and note how Jesus would see it.
