God With Us: Encountering the King This Christmasნიმუში

Day 7: The Humble King
Of all the titles we give Jesus, none is more surprising than the Humble King. Philippians 2:5–7 describes it beautifully: though he was God, Jesus “did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.” (ESV)
The King of all creation chose humility. He laid aside his rights, his glory, and his power to serve us. From his birth in a manger to his death on a cross, his life was marked by humility.
Why does this matter? Because Jesus shows us the true path to life. In a world that values pride and self-promotion, Jesus demonstrates that real greatness is found in serving others. He teaches us that to exalt ourselves is to be humbled, but to humble ourselves is to be exalted (Luke 14:11).
Humility is not weakness but strength under submission. Jesus, fully God, chose to submit to the Father’s will. He used his power not to dominate but to give life. And he calls us to the same path.
Where do you need to embrace humility today? Maybe in a relationship where pride has caused tension. Maybe in your work, where comparison has bred insecurity. Maybe in your walk with God, where surrender feels scary. The way of humility is the way of peace, joy, and grace.
As we near Christmas Day, let us follow the example of our humble King. May his humility inspire us to serve, forgive, and love as he did. For one day, every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Philippians 2:9–11). Let us choose to bow willingly now and live in worship of the King who humbled himself for us.
Prayer:
Humble King, shape my heart after yours. Teach me to walk in humility, to serve others, and to glorify you in all I do. In your holy name, Amen.
