God With Us: Encountering the King This Christmas

DAY 5 OF 7

Day 5: The Merciful King

Mercy is at the very heart of Jesus’ ministry. From healing the sick to forgiving the sinful, he consistently chose compassion over condemnation. His heart is filled with mercy for the broken and undeserving.

The coming of Christ itself was an act of mercy. Left on our own, we could never measure up to God’s standard. Yet in love, God sent his Son to redeem us. Jesus bore the crown of thorns so we might be crowned with steadfast love and mercy (Psalm 103:2–4).

Mercy means we don’t receive what we deserve. But Jesus goes further. He replaces guilt with grace, shame with acceptance, and weakness with strength. His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22–23).

Do you believe God delights in showing you mercy? Many of us live as though God is reluctant to forgive, as if we must prove ourselves worthy. But Scripture reveals the opposite. Our God longs to extend compassion. Like a loving father, he meets us in our weakness and lifts us up again.

And as recipients of mercy, we are called to extend it to others. This world is desperate for compassion. When we choose to forgive, to release judgment, and to show kindness, we reflect the heart of our merciful King.

This Christmas season, allow Jesus to crown you with his mercy. Let his compassion heal your heart and shape your actions. Receive his mercy freely, and then extend it freely to others.

Prayer:
Merciful King, thank you for your steadfast love. Teach me to rest in your mercy and extend it to others as you have to me. In your merciful name, Amen.
