The Ministry Table

DAY 29 OF 30

A Call to Unity

From the very beginning, Christians have disagreed about what it means to follow Jesus. In Acts, the early church wrestled with big questions—so big that even the apostles argued and debated.

Two thousand years later, not much has changed. We still disagree—about theology, politics, and how to face the challenges of our time. And there are certainly plenty of challenges.

I want to confess something—when someone disagrees with me on something that I deeply care about, my first reaction is to like them just a little bit less. There—I said it. Thankfully, the Holy Spirit doesn’t leave me there. He nudges me back toward love. But I have to own that first response—I think many of us do, for the sake of the gospel.

Mac Pier is the Founder of Movement.org, and he often says, “Division in the church breeds atheism in the world. Unity in the church breeds faith.”

If we want to see the church breed faith, then we need to pursue unity. We’ll never agree on everything. But as ministry leaders, there are some simple things we can do to pursue unity. Here are just three ideas.

  1. Check our hearts. We can be honest about our first reactions, and invite the Spirit to transform them.
  2. Stay at the table. Instead of walking away when we don’t agree, we can lean in with humility.
  3. Choose love first. We can let our first words and actions reflect kindness, even when our convictions differ.

At Faithly, we believe ministry leaders are called to model this kind of unity. Because the world is watching. Our witness isn’t about pretending differences don’t exist—it’s about showing a love stronger than division.

About this Plan

The Ministry Table

The Ministry Table is a 30-day devotional plan created by and for ministry leaders. Each day, you’ll hear from a different pastor, leader, or ministry practitioner — voices from many churches, traditions, and places — offering encouragement, challenge, and wisdom drawn from their own walk with Jesus. Together, these reflections form a shared table of daily bread: a space where leaders can be fed, strengthened, and reminded that we’re not walking this road alone.
