To The Other Side

One evening, after a full day of ministry, Jesus said to His disciples, “Let’s go over to the other side.” They left the crowd, pushed off from shore, and set out across the lake. Jesus, exhausted, fell asleep on a cushion.

Then it hit—a furious storm. Waves crashed over the boat, threatening to swamp them. The disciples panicked and woke Jesus: “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

Jesus stood, rebuked the wind, and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Instantly, the storm stopped. Complete calm. Then He turned to them: “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” In awe, they whispered, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

It’s easy to read this as just a comforting miracle—Jesus calming life’s storms. And it is that. But it’s also a revelation: Jesus has authority over chaos itself. His kingdom confronts disorder, pain, and fear with peace.

Here’s something we often miss: at the start, Jesus said, “We’re going over there.” At the end—Mark 5:1—it simply says, “They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes.”

Despite the storm, they made it. Exactly where Jesus said they would go.

That’s the encouragement for you today. Maybe you’re in the middle of crashing waves—confusion, waiting, pain. Maybe you feel stuck between a promise and its fulfillment. But if Jesus has said, “We’re going to the other side,” He will get you there.

The storm may be loud. The journey may feel uncertain. But His word is stronger than the wind, and His presence is greater than the waves.

So hold on. You’re going to make it—because He said so.

• What “storm” are you in right now?
• What has Jesus already promised you that you haven’t yet seen fulfilled?
• How can you rest in His presence, even before the waves are still?

Be encouraged, friend. He’s still in the boat. And you will reach the other side.
