The Case of the Burning Water, Case Closed
King Ahab was one of the worst rulers Israel ever had—promoting the worship of Baal and Asherah like it was the latest trend. God sent His prophet Elijah to deliver a bold message: no rain would fall until Elijah said so. And for three long, dusty years… nothing but drought.
Finally, God told Elijah it was time to confront Ahab. The king blamed Elijah for the whole mess, calling him a troublemaker. Elijah fired right back—it was Ahab’s disobedience that had brought the drought, not him. Then Elijah threw down a challenge: “Let’s see whose God is real.”
On Mount Carmel, hundreds of Baal’s prophets built an altar and called on their god all day—shouting, dancing, even cutting themselves. Nothing. Not a spark. Then Elijah rebuilt the Lord’s altar, poured twelve giant jars of water all over it (just to make it interesting), and prayed.
BOOM! Fire shot down from heaven—burning up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones, the soil, and even the water in the trench. The people hit the ground, declaring that the Lord is God. Elijah told Ahab to get ready… rain was finally coming.
Elijah was ready to stand up for God in front of everyone, even when the odds were stacked against him. We need that same readiness—alert, prepared, and willing to represent Him whenever He gives us the opportunity. Sometimes that means speaking up, sometimes it means praying boldly, and sometimes it means simply living in a way that points people to Him.
I trust that there will be times when God will reveal Himself to others through miracles I pray for. Elijah prayed big, and God showed up big—and when He does, it’s not just for me, it’s so others will see who He truly is.
The Case of the Disastrous Weather
A peaceful trip began with calm waters and easy conversation. But before long, the sky shifted, the wind picked up, and the waves began to tower over the boat. Each minute felt heavier than the last. Still, no one on board could have predicted how this day would end. What’s your guess for The Case of the Disastrous Weather?
