また夫は、教会のためにいのちを捨てるほどの愛を示されたキリストにならって、妻を愛しなさい。 キリストがそうなさったのは、バプテスマ（洗礼）と神のことばで教会を洗いきよめ、きよく、汚れのないものとするためでした。 こうして、一点のしみも、しわも、何の傷もない、きよく完全な栄光の教会として迎え入れようとされたのです。 これこそ、夫が妻に対してとるべき態度です。つまり、夫は妻を、自分の体の一部のように愛さなければなりません。二人は一体なのですから、夫が妻を愛する時、自分自身を愛しているのです。 自分の体を憎む者はいません。愛し、いたわります。それは、キリストが自分の体である教会をそうされたのと同じです。私たちは、その体の各部分なのです。
