High Positions Require High Standards The events surrounding the sad story of David and Bathsheba occurred about halfway through David’s reign. That would mean David was about fifty years old. One of the most amazing things about the Bible is that the lives of people, even kings, are described honestly and openly. Social standards would have kept us from knowing stories like David’s sin with Bathsheba, but God made certain that this story would be preserved for his people. Jesus was praying for his disciples when he said, “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth” (John 17:17). Scripture is careful to teach the life of David with truth, and this story has a purpose for all generations. Everyone sins, even kings like David.
