Daily Bible Reading – June 2022: God’s Renewing Word of New Life in the SpiritCampione
June 6
Introduction
In today’s reading, Peter begins his message by repeating the words of the prophet Joel regarding the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and he speaks of Jesus’s death and resurrection. He then quotes the words of David from Psalm 16.
Scripture Reading
Acts 2:14-28
Today’s Key Verse: Acts 2:22a
[Peter said:] “Listen to these words . . . Jesus of Nazareth was a man whose divine authority was clearly proven to you by all the miracles and wonders which God performed through him.”
Reflect
Reread verses 16-21. (You may wish to compare these verses with Joel 2:28-32). On whom will God outpour his Spirit? How do you experience the presence of the Holy Spirit in your life? Is there someone you know who needs to hear the good news of God’s salvation?
Pray
Gracious God, the outpouring of your Holy Spirit fills me with joy and wonder. By raising Jesus from death, you have freed me from the power of death and shown me the path that leads to life. Empower me to proclaim your message of love and salvation to those I encounter today. Amen.
And now, join us as we pray for Americans to turn to the Bible for comfort and guidance. Lord God, we’ve learned that millions of Americans have disengaged from the Bible in the past twelve months, and recent data indicates a 10 percent decrease (from 49% to 39%) since April 2021. We pray, Lord God, that church leaders and other Bible advocates will see this as an opportunity to help people in their communities to understand and apply Scripture to their daily lives and that, when faced with disruptions and difficulties from warfare, pandemic, heartache, and grief, they can look to the Bible for wisdom, guidance, and a right perspective. And we pray that Americans will deepen their relationship with Jesus through your holy Word. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Acts 2:29-47: Peter continues his message about Jesus and encourages everyone to be baptized.
