5 Spiritual Needs You Must Not IgnoreSýnishorn

We can no longer ignore this.
From the moment a human being is conceived in their mother's womb, certain needs must be met to ensure proper development in the womb. Although a baby begins to function independently after birth, they are still completely dependent on others. As we grow, we gradually stop needing help in some areas—but there are other needs that remain with us for life.
The Royal Spanish Academy defines the word “need” as something “impossible to do without or resist.” This means that everything we’ll reflect on over the next few days is absolutely vital. If any of these are missing, we cannot live fully.
Here are some of the basic physical needs we all recognize:
- Breathing
- Eating
- Drinking water
- Sleeping
When one of these is lacking, the body starts to show signs of distress. If not addressed promptly, this can lead to serious illness, and in some cases, even require emergency or intensive care. If we stop breathing, eating, drinking, or sleeping, our health begins to deteriorate quickly. Why? Because these things are essential for physical survival.
Now consider this: there are also spiritual needs that are just as essential—and yet, we often ignore them. We neglect our spiritual well-being until symptoms appear: anxiety, weariness, confusion, lack of purpose. The problem is, unlike physical symptoms, spiritual decline doesn’t always get immediate attention.
That’s why, in this devotional, we’ll explore five spiritual needs that you and I cannot afford to ignore:
- The need to be born again
- The need to decrease so that He may increase
- The need to be about the Father’s business
- The need to be afflicted
- The need to worship
Let me leave you with this reflection today:
Just as I care for my physical health, I must care for my spiritual health.
I pray this devotional encourages and challenges you. May this journey draw us closer to God’s heart and awaken in us a fresh desire to walk in His purpose. See you tomorrow.
