The Good Enough MomSýnishorn

"So, what are your strengths?" It was a simple question and one I should have been able to answer. Sitting at a baseball game, I was having an interesting conversation with an amazing single mom—a business woman in the workforce—who was also raising three kids. She asked me again, "What are your strengths?"
My brain sort of just stalled and went blank. Nothing came to mind. I was quiet. Me, quiet? Having nothing to say in a conversation? I assure you; this does not happen often. But that day it did.
There was a simple answer that I reflected on during my long drive back from the baseball tournament. I was obsessed with my weaknesses. If that mom had asked me about my weaknesses, I could have talked forever. But my strengths? I had not thought about my strengths because I had forgotten about them.
In the sacred space of honest conversation, a simple question exposed a profound wound in my own heart. When your mind becomes fixated on everything you're doing wrong, the beautiful truth of who you are gets buried beneath layers of self-criticism and comparison.
Your children need to witness a mother who recognizes her own value, who can articulate her contributions with confidence rather than deflection. When you model healthy self-awareness and appreciation for your God-given abilities, you teach your children to embrace their own unique design. The Psalmist writes that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Do you believe this truth about yourself?
Reflection Question: What might your children or closest friends identify as one of your greatest God-given strengths even if you have difficulty recognizing it in yourself?
