Restoring Relationships

DAY 13 OF 30

Day 13 – Where Conflict Starts

Devotional

Conflict doesn’t begin with the visible offense—it begins much earlier, in the unseen desires of the heart. As James 4:1 teaches, fights and quarrels arise from internal desires that are frustrated. When we don’t get what we want, we respond with judgment and self-justification. The true spark of conflict is not the offense itself, but our decision to take offense. This choice fuels the wildfire—elevating our self-interest, labeling others, and embracing shallow, limiting stories. But when we begin to understand how offense operates, we can stop it from igniting and instead respond with grace. Choosing not to take offense invites the Peacefire of the Holy Spirit to work within us, changing our perspective and leading us toward healing, even when we’ve been wronged.

Reflection Question:
Are you holding onto offense in any area of your life? How might your conflict story change if you chose not to take offense?

Prayer:
Lord, search my heart and reveal the desires that fuel conflict within me. Forgive me for the times I’ve taken offense and judged others harshly. Help me to lay down my self-interest and respond with humility, grace, and the peace of Your Spirit. I choose the Peacefire over the wildfire. Amen.
