Messengers of the GospelSýnishorn

I am coming soon
“Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:11 NIV)
“Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End." (Revelation 22:12-13 NIV)
He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen. (Revelation 22:20-21 NIV)
Over the past five weeks, we have focused on being Messengers of the Gospel. Our hope is that, through this experience, you will seek opportunities to live as a messenger of the gospel every day.
At the beginning of this study, you created a list of 5 people you have been praying for throughout this experience. In some cases, the Lord may have already opened up opportunities for you to talk with them about the good news of Jesus; in other cases, that might not have happened yet. You may still be waiting for the right time and the right situation.
Today, as we wrap up this study together, let’s take a moment to face the reality of that list of names.
Fact: No one is guaranteed tomorrow.
That may sound morbid to say because it makes you think of death, but death is not the most important event on the horizon. Far more important than a physical death is the upcoming return of Jesus Christ. One day soon, our lord, savior, and king will return.
Jesus made this clear in the book of Revelation when he said,
“…Yes, I am coming soon...” (Revelation 22:20 NIV)
The response of the Apostle John, who wrote what we read in Revelation, indicates that he was not only prepared but excited for Jesus to come! When Jesus said He was coming soon, John responded, “…Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.” (Revelation 22:20 NIV)
Take a moment to think about the following questions:
Am I excited for Jesus to come?
What would I do differently today if I knew that Jesus was returning tonight at 11:59 pm?
How would this urgency and focus affect how I share the gospel?
What level of urgency do I feel about the five people on my list?
As your final action step from the Messengers of the Gospel series:
1. Set up a time to talk with each of the five people on your list.
2. Pray before meeting with each person.
3. Share the three parts of your story.
(My life before Jesus, I came to Jesus because..., My life with Jesus now)
4. Share the good news of Jesus:
(Use the Bridge illustration and/ or the GOSPEL acronym)
5. Allow them to respond to the Gospel.
(You can guide them through a simple prayer like: Jesus, I ADMIT I have sinned. I ASK for your forgiveness. I ACCEPT you, Jesus, as my Savior. I ACKNOWLEDGE you as the Lord of my life.)
6. Invite them into a church family where they can grow in their faith and join Jesus in His mission.
Be bold and leave the results up to Jesus. No matter the outcome, enjoy being a messenger of the greatest good news the world has ever known. Enjoy serving our great king.
Jesus is coming soon!
Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!
