Walking in God's Presence

DAY 7 OF 7

Teamwork

We are not meant to be islands. No one is supposed to walk through this life alone. We were created with a need for community and fellowship. God himself has said that it is not good for man to be alone. We were created to experience joy together and to shoulder each other’s burdens. Relationships enrich our lives and strengthen us when we cannot stand on our own. If we pridefully insist on walking alone, we are more likely to get lost.

Instead of striving to be independent, we should embrace the wisdom and input of others. There is strength in connection. When we humbly ask for help, we set the stage for success. Asking for help moves the focus from simply achieving goals to growing our character, deepening relationships, and learning more about unity. Working together allows us to sharpen each other and gain a greater understanding of God’s design for the body of Christ.

No matter what your purpose or goal is, there is wisdom in having many advisors. Scripture affirms that plans succeed when you humbly seek wise counsel. There is protection and wisdom in opening yourself up to the input of others. Ask for help when you need it and humbly acknowledge the ways other people contribute to your life. Their help doesn’t diminish your own contribution or accomplishments, but it enhances the possibility for greater success. You might be capable on your own, but you are even stronger as part of a team.

Not only do other people feel valued when you ask their advice, but you will benefit from having multiple perspectives to draw from. The insight of others can fill gaps that you can’t see, strengthen you where you’re weak, and encourage you through successes and failures. The contributions of others are a sweet gift. When you elevate the opinions of others and value their help, you will find the richness that community has to offer.
