Walking in God's Presence

DAY 5 OF 7

Good Requirements

In this day and age, it is tempting to complicate the message of Christ. With so much available content and so many loud opinions, it’s easy to forget the simple beauty of the gospel. It’s hard to observe the nuance of being human and resist judging each other in our best attempts to live a God honoring life. It’s important to remember that Jesus came to give us abundant life, not to hold us to an impossible standard. We reflect Jesus when we simplify our expectations of ourselves and others.

There’s wisdom in stepping back and remembering what truly matters. Scripture brings beautiful clarity to what God expects of you. He doesn’t complicate it or make it difficult to attain. Act justly, love faithfulness, and walk humbly with God. His will is not an impossible checklist, and he doesn’t expect perfection. You will never go astray if the things outlined in Micah are your gauge for success.

When you align your life with God’s standards, you become a testimony of God’s goodness. As you find the freedom that comes with knowing your life honors God, you can give others the gift of freedom as well. Instead of overcomplicating his will for your life, lean on what Scripture says. Contentedness and humility will grow as you stop striving, comparing, and judging. Viewing yourself and others through eyes of grace allows you to accurately reflect God’s love.

Instead of overcomplicating God’s will for your life, lean on the truth of Scripture. Trust what God says and embrace the simplicity of it. Love God, love people, and stay close to him. As you seek his presence, you’ll find that his values and character spill into your own life. Pursue relationship over rules in every season of life.

Following God is not hard. Don’t buy into the lie that you don’t have what it takes or it’s too complicated. God simply asks you to spend time with him, trust him, and experience the fullness of his love. As you surrender to him, he will faithfully help you walk in his ways.
