Psalm 127 Warriors: Part 2Sýnishorn

By Amorita Weaver
“Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, but shall speak with their enemies in the gate.” - Psalm 127:5 (NKJV).
Join me in diving into this last verse of Psalm 127. The contextual meaning is rich in truth and promise for us as believers.
Happy: The Amplified version expounds on this by describing a parent as being blessed and fortunate. The enemy and today’s culture would have us believe that children are burdensome, cause financial strain, and interfere with our goals and dreams. But God intends for children to be a blessing - a rich fountain of blessing. Two very different designs by two very different sources. According to God’s Word, the enemy is the father of lies and in him there is no truth (John 8:44). We have the choice whether we will believe the enemy or the Author of Truth, God. Choosing to believe what God has said is where the journey begins to make this your reality.
His quiver is full of them: A quiver is a case carried on one's back to hold arrows. I find this analogy very ‘on-par’ for this chapter (see Psalms 127:4). A fundamental way a warrior or hunter will prepare is by ensuring their quiver is stocked with arrows. In 1 Samuel 17:40 we see the shepherd boy David prepare for his battle with the giant Goliath by choosing for himself 5 smooth stones to stock in his pouch. He only ended up needing one, but as a wise warrior he prepared with intentionality. One way we impact God’s Kingdom is by filling our home with children who choose to love and obey God. Just as an arrow has the ability to soar higher, further, and with greater impact than the archer that sends it, so too our children can be for the Kingdom.
Additionally, an archer’s success is highly dependent on the integrity (quality) of the arrow. If a crooked arrow or one with a torn fletching (the feathered/tapered backend of an arrow) is used, the aim will be inaccurate resulting in a missed target. In conjunction with the first portion of verse 5, we learn that a parent can expect blessings from having a home full of children. But just as the integrity of an arrow affects the outcome of the target, our future and children’s future depends on the integration (unity) of our home with God and His written Word.
They shall not be ashamed: Full transparency - As a mother I have associated my worth as a parent based upon the behaviors and level of success of my children. As a confession, I have placed value on other parents based on the behaviors and level of success of their children. This way of thinking is wrong and a strategy used by the enemy to foster discouragement and prideful thinking. The beauty of Kingdom living is this…whether you are married/unmarried, have children/will have children, YOUR worth is not determined by anyone or anything other than Jesus Christ. Because you’ve chosen to trust in Him, you are free from all shame and condemnation (Romans 8:1). He bore your shame so you wouldn’t have to (Isaiah 53:5). His worthiness as the pure and spotless Lamb of God is what establishes your worth.
But shall speak with their enemies in the gate: In scripture we see a city’s gate being the area where public cases are witnessed and decided upon (Joshua 20:4, Ruth 4). Additionally, the city’s gate is a prime target when attempting to overtake a city or when defending a city. The inference being made here is that when we fully depend on God and His Word to lead in our homes, our children will grow to be mighty Kingdom Warriors. Able to speak with confidence for, and live in reflection of, God’s Way. We can expect our children to be distinguished members of society and God’s Kingdom. They will bring honor to their family and will successfully defend their city and home.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, Your Word has shown me the rich design You have intended for children to be in my home. I choose to trust You and I choose to walk in Your Way. Lord, if there is any area of unbelief in my heart, help my unbelief. Your Way is Life, Your Way brings joy, and for this I praise You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Meditation:
I surrender my will into alignment with the Will of the Father. My home is filled with blessings because I walk in unity with God. My children bring honor to our family and to the name of Jesus Christ.
