Psalm 127 Warriors: Part 2

DAY 1 OF 3

By Jency Priski

“Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth”

Psalm 127:4

It is interesting to note that the psalmist uses the arrow analogy to describe the children of one’s youth. In olden warfare, arrows add strength to a warrior in battle because they are known for precision and power. In the same way, our children can be wielded into fierce warriors of God’s kingdom by right nurturing (Proverbs 22:6).

As parents, we need to understand the potential of our children and the divine purpose in their lives. We need to rely on God’s strength to raise them. Our fleshly instincts may try to manipulate them as per our will. Our childhood experiences and worldly patterns may lure us towards faulty parenting (Ephesians 6:4, Colossians 3:21). But to raise Godly children, we should first prefer an intimate walk with God every day. Our decisions should be guided by the Word of God. Sometimes, it may mean opposition from others, even our own children. Jesus mentioned this too (Matthew 10:21-22, 34-39). But we need to take firm ground as per God’s Will and the best interests of our children.

This doesn’t mean children lack autonomy. However, in these end times, children are highly vulnerable to physical, mental, spiritual attacks. God has ordained the family to be a safeguard from evil influences and the home a place of nurturing and instruction. (Genesis 1:28, 18:19). As parents, it is our responsibility to protect them with the covering of prayer. We ought also to make time for them and offer a safe abode in times of their distress. Nonetheless, a godly man/woman makes sure that their child always looks out for God in every aspect of life (Deuteronomy 6:5–9).

Children do model a kingdom life-style too. A child-like heart is one which is desired by the Kingdom of heaven (Luke 18:16,17). They are innocent, humble and quick to forgive. They trust their parents without questioning and delight in their presence. God uses children to make us understand His love and the way He cares for us (Psalms 103:13). It is up to us to listen to His voice and submit without hardening our hearts! (Psalms 95:7,8)

So dear believer in Christ, let us not forget the one thing which is foundational in our warrior life, including parenting - seek God continually for He is the One who helps us fight the right battle (Psalms 18:34).

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, fill our hearts with Your wisdom and love. Help us raise our children as per Your will. Protect us from yielding to the vices of the enemy. Bless our children to be mighty warriors of God. Renew in us a child-like heart. Make us perceive your grace and love towards us as we raise up our children everyday. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Meditation:

I love my children as God loves me. I will always direct my children towards God. I submit to having a child-like heart. My children are the arrows of the divine armory. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!
