Building for Eternity

DAY 4 OF 5

Invisible Forces

Biblical Story: Elisha and the Chariots of Fire (2 Kings 6:8-17)

Theme Verse: Ephesians 6:12

Angels and demons are actually real, even though we cannot see them! The Bible talks about a spiritual battle that is happening all around us. Ephesians 6 reminds us that our struggles aren’t just against visible challenges, like difficult situations or people, but against unseen spiritual forces. In Luke 10:18-20 or 15:10, Jesus talks about the realities of this entire invisible world that exists with angels and demons. The amazing truth is that the enemy is trying to destroy us and God’s angels are with us, protecting us—even when we can’t see them.

Let’s look at the story of Elisha and his servant Gehazi. One day, Gehazi was terrified when an enemy army surrounded them—he thought they were in serious trouble! But Elisha wasn’t worried. He prayed for God to open Gehazi’s eyes, and when He did, Gehazi saw an incredible sight—an army of angels with chariots of fire surrounding them, ready to protect them. The angels had been there all along, but Gehazi couldn’t see them at first. What a great reminder that even though we can’t see God’s spiritual army, it is always fighting for us and protecting us.

Thinking back to our Lego creations, unexpected things would sometimes happen—like someone bumping the table and knocking down the whole structure, or the vacuum cleaner grabbing an important piece that had fallen to the floor. Life is like that too; unseen forces, both good and bad, can impact us. Just as our Lego creations can be knocked over, life can sometimes feel like it's falling apart because of these unseen forces. But we can trust that God and His angels are always there, ready to protect us—just as they did for Elisha and Gehazi.

When life gets tough or things don’t go as expected, remember that God has given us special protection. Not only do we have His angels, but we also have the Armor of God! Ephesians 6 tells us to put on this armor—like the shield of faith and the helmet of salvation—to stand strong against unseen forces. We do this by trusting God, praying, and living in His truth.

So when challenges come we can pray, trust in God’s protection, and put on our spiritual armor. With God’s help and His angels fighting for us, we are never alone!

Questions:

1. What do you think when you hear that there’s a spiritual battle we can’t see? We might think they’re hallucinations, but then why would God give us spiritual armor if we didn’t need it?

2. How do you feel knowing that God’s angels protect you and that He is always with you?

3. What can you do to trust more in God’s protection when you face challenges?

Theme:

Though we cannot see angels and demons, they are real, and there is an ongoing spiritual battle.
