SUNDAY IS HERE!
What an amazing passage! Jesus spoke it, and He followed through. He said He would die and rise from the dead, and everything spoken about Him by the Old Testament prophets has come to fruition. Everything Jesus said about Himself came true. He is not here—He is alive!
I can only imagine the thoughts and emotions that Mary and Mary Magdalene must have experienced. After witnessing Jesus die before their eyes, He was now alive. They knew Jesus had said He would die, but the idea that He would come back to life three days later must have been hard to grasp. And sure enough, what seemed like another dark day became the greatest day in human history!
As they approached the tomb and saw that the stone had been rolled away, it must have stunned them. Even more astonishing was the sight of an angel sitting on the very stone that was supposed to seal Jesus inside. Clothed in white, with an appearance like lightning, even the guards were struck motionless, as if they were dead, upon seeing these angelic beings.
The angels declared that Jesus was no longer there—He had risen! “Come, see the place where He was lying.” If someone told me that my Savior was no longer in the grave, I would want to see it for myself. And sure enough, the angels provided proof that Jesus was alive! To this day, you can visit the place in Jerusalem, Israel, where it’s believed Jesus rose from the grave and see for yourself the truth of what the angels proclaimed: “He is not here, for He has risen.” Jesus is alive!
His resurrection destroyed both sin and the grave. It rendered the enemy powerless. His resurrection ensures that those who believe in Him will be with Him for eternity. His resurrection allows the old life to pass away and makes all things new. It shows that nothing on earth or under the earth has power over our Savior. It proves to the skeptic that Jesus’ body cannot be found. The bodies of other religious figures who claimed to be "gods" are still in their graves, but not ours!
On a Thursday evening, Jesus was arrested. On a Friday afternoon, He was crucified and died. All day Saturday, life was filled with gloom and hopelessness. But early Sunday morning, the Holy Spirit entered that tomb and raised Jesus from the dead!
Today, we celebrate that Jesus has risen! Death no longer has power over us. Our Sunday is here, and victory is ours!
TODAY’S PRAYER: Jesus, thank You for giving of Your life so that I might have new life in You. Thank you for saving me and giving me the victory. Today I want to live for You, not only on Sundays but every day, and proclaim with my life that my Savior is alive! In Jesus' name, amen!
