Sunday Is Coming

DAY 2 OF 3

GLOOMY SATURDAY

Scripture provides little detail about what the disciples and followers of Jesus did the day after His crucifixion. However, it’s reasonable to assume that fear overtook the disciples, as they knew their Savior had been crucified. It’s not far-fetched to believe that the same religious leaders who orchestrated Jesus’ death might target His followers as well.

Matthew’s account offers some insight into what happened the day after Jesus’ death. In addition to the disciples' fear, the chief priests and Pharisees also had their own concerns. They feared that Jesus’ prophecy about rising from the dead after three days might come true. To prevent this, they took precautions by sealing the tomb entrance with a massive stone and by placing a guard at the entrance of the tomb to prevent the disciples from stealing the body.

Despite witnessing Jesus perform incredible miracles, the disciples were engulfed in hopelessness and despair. They had seen their Savior beaten, flogged, mocked, spat upon, struck with a rod, ridiculed, His beard torn from His face, a crown of thorns pressed into His head, and nails driven into His hands and feet. It seemed as though all hope was lost on that bleak Saturday.

Yet, they forgot that the One who had performed the impossible was fully capable of doing it again! Today, you may be facing a personal storm or crisis, feeling lost or unsure of your purpose. Your "Garden Moment" and “Gloomy Saturday" might feel like it’s too heavy to carry, but in reality, they are preparing you for your greatest victory! What may seem impossible in your life right now, God is setting you up to witness a repeat of His power and mercy.

Hold on tight, trust in the One who can perform miracles, and remember that even though your “Gloomy Saturday" might seem like a time of doom and despair, Sunday is coming!

TODAY’S PRAYER: Father God, thank You for the reminder that I have a Savior who is capable of performing the impossible. Today, I need the impossible to happen in my life. In the name of Jesus, will you empower me to keep my full attention and total trust in You. Knowing and believing by faith that victory in my life is on its way. Thank you, Lord, for Your goodness. And even in my darkest hour I wait for the seal that is hindering my purpose to be broken by our risen Savior! In Jesus name, amen.
