King & Kingdoms

DAY 71 OF 91

Hindsight is 20/20, as the saying goes. Near the end of Solomon’s reign (and his time on earth) we hear his most honest and objective wisdom regarding life as he knew it. His conclusion? “Meaningless.” It’s all like “chasing the wind.” The wives who stole his heart away from God, the wealth that amassed to decadent proportions, the approval from foreign kings and queens ... meaningless.

The backdrop of Ecclesiastes and Proverbs is the story of a once-strong nation dividing and eventually disintegrating into obscurity under the leadership of sons who failed to take heed to Proverbs 28 and 29. It is here we find the commentary of a disillusioned king who offers one last piece of fatherly advice to you and me. “When all has been heard, the conclusion of the matter is this: fear God and keep his commands, because this is for all humanity.”

Think it Over: If someone asked you what the most important thing in life is, what would you say?
