As David lies dying, the power grab begins. Ultimately, despite drama, deception, and political intrigue, Solomon assumes the throne as David intended. But the young king soon finds his new crown to be a heavy one. “Who is able to judge this great people of yours?” he asks God. For Solomon’s humility and devotion, God grants wisdom beyond compare. Yet, this is a wisdom that is rooted in and only realized when Solomon heeds the Psalm of his father. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” Only if Solomon walks in the way of the Lord can he rightly bear the weight of his crown.
