Kabar Baik itu mulai seperti yang ditulis oleh Nabi Yesaya, begini, “ ‘Inilah utusan-Ku,’ kata Allah; ‘Aku mengutus dia lebih dahulu daripada-Mu, supaya ia membuka jalan untuk-Mu.’ Ada orang berseru-seru di padang pasir, ‘Siapkanlah jalan untuk Tuhan; ratakanlah jalan-jalan yang akan dilewati-Nya.’ ” Seperti yang tertulis itu, begitulah juga muncul Yohanes di padang gurun. Ia membaptis orang dan menyampaikan berita dari Allah. “Kamu harus bertobat dari dosa-dosamu dan harus dibaptis, supaya Allah mengampuni kamu,” begitu kata Yohanes.
