CAN JESUS HANDLE MY DOUBTS? [The video portion of this devotional is not available on your device. To view this video, visit your plan at www.youversion.com] In a word, Yes. Nowhere is this better portrayed than in Jesus’s interactions with John the Baptist. John was an odd figure to say the least. Aside from maintaining a diet of locusts and wild honey, he also struggled with fashion issues, sporting a garment of camel hair, a leather belt, and a pair of sandals. Imagine a guest looking like that showing up at your church one Sunday morning. Truth be told, if he were alive today, he’d have a hard time landing a job in any American pulpit. Can you see the Twitter feed, “#whatswiththeguyinthecamelhairapparel?” Yet, this man was 100% sold out for Christ. You wouldn’t know it by looking at him, but John was all about one thing—preparing the way for Jesus. Making Him known. In fact, his life motto was “More of Jesus, less of me.” John still had what some may say was a flaw in his faith, a crack in his character. You see John was also a doubter. Wait. What? Are you serious? You mean to tell me John the Baptist had a bout with doubt? Absolutely. That’s because it’s easy to be bold and confident when you’re free. Wait until your head is about to the go to the chopping block and see what happens. Having been imprisoned for challenging Herod’s unlawful marriage, John knew his time was short. As the hourglass was running empty, John slipped into a state of panic spelled D-O-U-B-T. How does this happen? It’s called being human and this shared trait makes every single one of us susceptible to doubt. Including John. There is nothing like a little fear to call your faith into question and when your fear turns to doubt, one thing every doubting believer longs for is a heavy dose of Christian assurance. You know, some good old-fashioned comfort. And that’s exactly what John’s about to get from Jesus. John could have turned from Jesus and let his doubts lead him to unbelief, yet he continued to DOUBT TOWARD FAITH, even when his life was on the line. Reflection You’ve seen how Jesus handled John’s doubts. Rest in the assurance that He can handle your doubts as well. Jesus can handle all of your doubts. Vocalize your doubts to Jesus today. Make them known to Him and let Him handle them. For additional video content visit www.oneminuteapologist.com
