GOD'S LOVING PROMISES: YOU CAN EXPECT GOD'S BLESSINGS

People get down when they feel that all their efforts are wasted and pointless. They get cynical and say things like, "Virtue is its own punishment" and "No good deed ever goes unpunished." We think we know too many stories about how cheaters prosper and the violent always win.

That's just bitter talk. Blind too. The Bible says that the Lord "blesses the home of the righteous. . . . You will go on your way in safety. . . . When you lie down, your sleep will be sweet" (Proverbs 3:33, 23-24). The Lord pays attention. He remembers. And then He acts.

The word "bless" means that God intervenes in our lives to make them better. He accepted the obligation of fatherhood when we were washed with water and the Word. He promised to make good things happen to the righteous. When things are right with you and God, your sleep is sweet indeed.
