Truths

There are some "truths" that are true whether we believe in them or not: gravity will still hold you to the earth even if you deny its existence. The moon will still vary the tides even if you think it’s Neil Armstrong’s footstool.

Acts 17 is a passage full of notable moments, but one passage that stands out is verses 27–28 because this passage points to the truth of our absolute reliance on God whether we acknowledge Him or not.

It’s a big statement to say, "in Him we live and move and exist". It's not just, "in Him we have peace," or "in Him we find joy" – it says the entirety of our ability to draw breath and function in the world originates in Him.

We can so easily take that for granted, and yet this truth is the backbone of our lives. Whether you believe in God or not, you’re here because of Him.

Alongside this sobering reality is something else we can take great comfort in: He is not far from each one of us.

If today you feel far from God, this verse is your reminder that He is right here. Your very breath reflects His presence, your heart beating is His life in you, and your ability to participate in this day is grounded in Him.
