If something is really important to you, you take care of it, right? Whether it’s your phone, or the shoes you’ve been waiting to buy, or your parent’s car that you borrowed, if it’s valuable to you, you care for it especially well. 

It’s easy to understand the value in something we can actually see and touch, but this proverb says that our heart is something of incredible value. Even if we can’t see it or even totally explain it, who we are and how we live flows from it. That’s why we’re instructed to guard it. We’re told to keep watch over our heart and protect it. That’s how valuable it is to God!

Today, ask God to show you an area in your life where you may need to guard your heart. Ask Him to show you how to value and protect it as the treasure it is.
