The Redeeming, Conceiving Work of God

Matthew 1:3, 5, 20
“Judah the father of Perez…whose mother was Tamar…Salmon the father of Boaz, whose other was Rahab…Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.”

God’s plan of salvation included redeeming the painful stories and broken lives of Tamar, Rahab, Bathsheba and eventually Mary and Joseph. The grace of God is much broader and deeper than most of us can comprehend. It is fear that keeps us from seeing and participating in God’s great story of salvation. Ironically, the Church can be the most fearful institution in understanding and joining God’s mission. God’s miracle in Mary of conception came through the Holy Spirit. Likewise God’s life-giving work of redemption and salvation continues to be conceived in the lives of those who offer their lives to him. There is no room for fear in faith.

What new chapter of God’s mission story does he want to conceive in us today?

Father God, you alone can redeem the brokenness and sin of my life and use me for your eternal purposes. Thank you for the stories of faith of those who have gone before me.
