Talk or pain
One of the reasons why the school of hard knocks is so effective is that it doesn’t allow for any dropouts. The laws of economics are like the law of gravity — they are in force whether you like them or not, whether you believe in them or not. Nothing of value is free. You get what you pay for. You get what you work for.
I believe that there also are some simple laws of education. People have basically two ways to learn and adapt their behaviors: talk or pain. They can learn by listening to their teachers and elders, by reading books and studying the behaviors and experiences of others. Or they can learn the hard way, suffering the consequences for being lazy, dishonest, undisciplined, or mouthy.
God loves education, especially the teaching and learning of his Word. Your choice — you can do this hard or you can do this easy. “He who scorns instruction will pay for it, but he who respects a command is rewarded” (Proverbs 13:13).
So what kind of life are you choosing for yourself? Do you find the Bible boring, obsolete, and a waste of your time, or are you thirsty for its wisdom?
