Whose agenda drives you? The forgiveness of your sins costs you nothing. It is free and full, God’s gift to you through faith in Jesus Christ. Grace is always free and complete, 100% God’s doing. But though free to you, it cost Jesus his life. As he received it back through his resurrection, he gives you yours back too. And invites you to give it to him. We were designed to live with God, live for God. We can’t find fulfillment, happiness, or satisfaction unless we are dialed into his agenda. Our faith changes how we relate to God. Instead of defiance — worship. Instead of fear — confidence. Instead of guilt — joy. Our faith will also change how we relate to other people. Let the prophet Micah explain God’s agenda: “He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8). You do these mighty works of faith not in order to become saved, but because you are saved. Act justly, i.e., your personal morality is drawn from God’s Word. Love mercy, i.e., show the same patience and forgiveness to the fools and sinners around you that God has shown to you. Walk humbly. Everything good in your life is God’s gift of love to you.
