"To Know Him: Boast In Him"
Growing up, like most of you, I was taught not to boast. Boasting was the mark of an arrogant person. However, the prophet Jeremiah writes in Jeremiah 9:23–24 that one thing worthy of boasting is knowing and understanding the Lord.
Jeremiah gives us permission to boast as long as it’s about this one thing. What would it take for you to know and understand something so well that you could boast about it? Think about that for a moment. Is there a field of study that you know and understand so well that you would be considered an expert? Is it music, a sport, your education, or a certain hobby?
As you think about this, what would it take for you to have the confidence to boast about your knowledge and understanding of this subject? Would it take a college degree, a master’s, or a PhD in that field? I’m pretty sure I will never be confident enough in any field of study to boast about my knowledge, but what I do know is that Jesus came to make a way for us to know God. And because of what Jesus did on the cross and by defeating the power of sin and death through his resurrection, the invitation to be in a relationship and know God is open to all.
This encouragement from Jeremiah of boasting in my knowledge and understanding of the Lord inspires me today to get to know my heavenly Father through my relationship with Jesus. All relationships take time to grow, but as you pursue knowing Christ today, have confidence that he has done the work for you to know and understand the Lord.
