The psalmist speaks of God’s loving kindness being “better than life” in the same breath as his statement about worshiping with uplifted hands. It’s not that he doesn’t appreciate his temporal life, but in worship he reaches for more of God’s dimension of life.
Let us remember that the “gift of eternal life” promised the believer is not just life unending, it is also unlimited. It is life that is eternal in quantity but also eternal in quality since God infuses us with the traits of His loving kindness. That’s worth reaching for!
