What do Jesus’ death and resurrection mean for believers? Jesus paid the penalty for our sins on the cross, and when he came alive again, he defeated death for all of us.

But how? People still die.

Paul explains what Jesus’ defeat of death means: It’s not a hope that we’ll live in these bodies, on this earth, forever. It’s not about never getting sick or old or hurt.

It’s better! When Jesus defeated death, he took away its power. Death no longer has the final word over all who belong to Jesus. One day, Jesus will return and destroy death once and for all. Then, our mortal bodies will be transformed into immortal bodies that can live and enjoy God’s new creation forever.

Read 1 Corinthians 15:20-28 and 1 Corinthians 15:51-58

Reflection Questions:

1. What did Adam’s sin cause for all of humanity? How does Jesus free us from that?
2. What difference should this future hope make in the way we live now? Does thinking about eternity cause you to rethink any of your priorities? Does it give you a sense of urgency to share Jesus with others? Does it alleviate some of your fears or pain? Something else? Take some time to ask God how the reality of heaven should affect your life now.
