Displaying the Greatness of God in Your LifePrimjer
The mission of your life, as a Christ follower, is to glorify God by giving Him weight in all of life’s dimensions. To truly orient your life’s purpose or mission around the glory of God, you must first have a proper theology of glory. Consider the following statements:
- Human sin curbs our meeting the standard of God’s glory (Rom. 3:23), but God’s salvation allows us to rejoice in the hope of the glory of God (Rom. 5:2).
- We reflect God’s glory and are being transformed into His (Christ’s) likeness with ever-increasing glory (2 Cor. 3:18) till the day comes when we will fulfill Psalm 8 (Heb. 2:5–9).
- We will be fully glorified (Rom. 8:30; note the certainty of a past tense word used of a future event!) to give God the glory fully due to Him.
- At present, the more we look like Christ, the more we will reflect God’s glory (2 Cor. 3:18). This life becomes the present process of glory, our becoming more like Him.
- He has prepared believers in advance for His glory (Rom. 9:23).
The glory of God is the be-all and end-all of the inner life and the intentional life. That’s why it’s our ulterior purpose. We are overwhelmed by His glorious character, plan, and works (Rom. 11:33–36). We are afraid and worship His glorious, powerful ability (Ezek. 44:4). We worship His glorious person (Rev. 14:7). We fall prostrate in humility at His magnificence (Rev. 4:10–11; 7:11–12). We are surprised by His incredible mysteries (1 Cor. 2:9–10). With others we exalt Him, worship Him, fall down before Him. “Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together” (Ps. 34:3). We are abandoned to bringing Him glory in everything we are and do as Christians (1 Cor. 6:20; 10:31).
We want to carry a single eye toward glorifying God. How will you make God look good in your life? Are you abandoned to His will for His glory?
