A Community That Shines

Our actions and, more specifically, our acts of service have tremendous effects on others. Have you been on the other side of someone’s generosity or their actions to serve you or a family member? How did that make you feel? What lasting thoughts did it leave you with in regard to that person?

When we serve others by going out of our way to help someone, send an encouraging message, cook a meal and take it to a family doing it tough or who have just had a newborn, or offer to help an elderly neighbor, we let the light that is within us shine in our community. Jesus encouraged us to do this, as it promotes a response of worship within those who are impacted by our acts of generosity.

Quoting the famous American president John F. Kennedy and paraphrasing it to suit our context: "Ask not what your community can do for you, ask what you can do for your community." What is it that you are good or gifted at that could be used to help and serve another person in need?

‘A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed’ – Proverbs 11:25 (NIV).
