It’s easy to be distracted when your dream is not your own. 

Many of us are distracted because we are attempted to live someone else’s dream. Let me explain. When I was enrolled in a higher education doctoral program, every assignment was tedious. I was attending classes, doing the research, writing papers; it was horrible. Versus when I would spend time working on my fashion blog and/or going to fashion events with my friends. Those came with ease. 

Looking back, what I’ve realized is that I was attempting to gain acceptance and validation from my Jamaican immigrant parents, who were always on me about achieving higher heights. Had I just followed my “bliss” and possibly written for a few local fashion magazines instead, I would’ve been less distracted and accomplished more in less time.

Make sure that the goals you’re pushing for are your own.
