Hidden Treasure in Dark Places: Heartbreak & Hope

DAY 2 OF 6

When Love Delays

Lazarus is dead.” Those words must have shattered Mary and Martha’s hearts. Who do you turn to when it feels like God has turned His back on you? Where do you find hope when your prayers go unanswered and your situation only gets worse?

What struck me as I read this story is in John 11:5–6. It says, “Now Jesus loved Martha, her sister, and Lazarus. Yet when He heard that Lazarus was sick, He stayed where He was two more days.”

Wait—what? How could Jesus love them and still delay? Have you ever felt that way? Wondering how a loving God could stay silent while your world was falling apart?

It’s a painful place to be: a place where hope seems gone, and it feels like the season has ended. But even here, God is still present. His delay is not His denial.

Today, give yourself permission to grieve what you’ve been holding in. You don’t need perfect words, sometimes the tears are the prayer.

Reflection Question:
What have you been carrying silently because it feels like God delayed too long? How can you invite Him into that space today, even through your tears?

Prayer:
Jesus, it’s hard to understand why You waited. I’ve felt forgotten and unseen. But today, I’m choosing to trust that Your love hasn’t changed. Meet me here, in the waiting, in the heartache, and remind me that You are still with me. Amen.
