Powerhouse: Your Toolkit for a Supernatural Lifeનમૂનો

Using the Spiritual Gifts the Right Way
The thing about power tools is this: they need to be used in the correct way and for the right purpose. It’s not wise to use a circular saw to cut your toast in the morning! Incorrect use may inflict injury upon yourself or others. In the same way, we must exercise wisdom when operating in the spiritual gifts - they are not to be feared, but neither should they be used recklessly either. We treat them with respect, particularly those gifts that directly impact others, such as prophecy. What would a manual for the spiritual power tools say? Here are a couple of suggestions:
Firstly, the gifts will never encourage, lead, or instruct in a way that contradicts God’s word. The gifts will always reflect the character and righteousness of the Father.
Secondly, the gifts should always lead you or others towards Jesus. We use them as humble servants, seeking to increase His glory and not puff up our own “spiritual” egos.
Thirdly, practice makes perfect! No one excels at the gifts straight away. The best way to learn is often through trial and error. You can do this safely with experienced believers who know how to operate in the particular spiritual gift you are developing. They can help guide you to hear the Shepherd's voice, strengthening your ability to operate in the gift.
Remember, God is a good Father. Parents are thrilled when their child tries to walk, even if they stumble. Likewise, if we are humble and sincere, the Father is thrilled when we step out in faith and try the gifts of the Spirit. Though we may stumble for a time, eventually we will walk in them
Reflection Questions:
- Is there someone in your world who has experience in the gifts of the Holy Spirit?
- How could you work with this person to practice and hone the gifts given to you?
