The Gift of the Word of Knowledge

The gift of the Word of Knowledge is an incredibly helpful tool for every believer. What is this gift? Palma gives a helpful description, saying that it, “...may include knowledge of facts or events otherwise unobtainable or unknowable by the individual except for a revelatory act of the Spirit.”

In the gospels, we see Jesus operating in this gift on multiple occasions: he knew what the Pharisees were thinking in their hearts when the paralysed man was healed. He also knew the relationship history of the woman at the well. In these moments, the Holy Spirit revealed this information to Jesus to help him fulfill the mission assigned to him.

Even today, this gift helps us to fulfil the mission assigned to us. It can strengthen our witness to unbelievers; it can give us insight when discerning difficult situations; or it may be used to give encouragement to other followers of Jesus, reminding them that God knows what they are going through and sees them.
