The Baptism of the Holy Spirit: How do I experience it?
While there remains a supernatural mission that must be accomplished, there remains a supernatural power that is available to all believers through the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. But how can you and I experience it? Firstly, we must recognise that we don’t need to do anything to earn it. We don’t need to work for it. We don’t receive it because we prayed ‘enough’. The Father delights in giving this gift. It is and always has been about the Father’s generosity. Secondly, we don’t need to be afraid. Our Heavenly Father is good; He doesn’t give snakes to those who ask for fish, nor will He give something counterfeit or false when we desire the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. The key is to ask in faith that the Father will fulfill His promise. You may do this by yourself or you may like someone who has already been Baptised in the Holy Spirit to lay hands on you and pray. There are many ways you will know that you have received it. You may experience a surge of God’s power, you may feel an overwhelming sense of joy and you may even begin to utter prayers and praise in a language not known to you; a phenomenon that will be covered in the day 4 devotional.
Practical Steps for Receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit:
- Ask the Father to fulfill his promise and baptise you in the Holy Spirit
- Take deep breaths, each time imagining that the Holy Spirit is filling you.
- Step out in faith and begin speaking praise & prayer to the Lord in the language and words the Spirit gives you (See our devotional on the gift of Speaking in Tongues for more on this).
