30 Days With the Psalms

DAY 10 OF 30

God will intervene

“Why does the wicked renounce God and say in his heart, ‘You will not call to account’? But You do see, for You note mischief and vexation, that You may take it into Your hands” (Psalm 10:13-14 ESV).

You may have the same experience as the poet in today’s Psalm: People around you do not believe in God and deny that He will ever call them to account. This opinion may be so common around us, that it makes us doubt whether it could actually be right… After all, it is not so easy to see, let alone “prove”, that God is really there, and that He will execute justice in the end.

But no, the author of Psalm 10 says, these wicked people are not right. God does note what is going on. This truth needs to be kept in mind, and one way to do so is by saying it aloud: “You hear the desire of the afflicted; You will strengthen their heart; You will incline Your ear” (Psalm 10:17 ESV).

God will intervene. He will address the evil and injustice done in the world. Not only will the afflicted be comforted and strengthened, but ultimately evil will be overcome completely, so that the wicked will never again strike terror (Psalm 10:18).

Are you longing for the day when God will fully restore righteousness?
