The Keys of the Kingdom

DAY 5 OF 7

‘Forgiveness’ is a logos master key.

Forgiveness isn’t just for certain people but not for others. Forgiveness is for everyone.

There are not too many things that unlock greater spiritual authority in our lives than living a life of forgiving quickly. Holding on to offence, hurt and bitterness is a thief that steals, kills and destroys. Forgiveness empowers us to live light and free.

In the context of Jesus declaring that He is building His church and He will give us the keys of the kingdom, He also states that the gates of Hades (hell) will not prevail against the church that He is building. This is important. Many people would do well to focus on the enemy less, but we must not be ignorant of the enemies’ schemes. He is a liar and a thief. He tries to use convincing arguments, but his intention is always to keep us bound, not to set us free.

One lie that the enemy regularly uses is that we cannot forgive that person who terribly wronged us. Forgiving someone doesn’t release that person from the responsibility of what they have done, but it does release us into the freedom which God intends. There is an incorrect focus on losing our freedom if we extend forgiveness to someone. The opposite is true. At the point of forgiveness, we step into the freedom for which Christ has set us free.

Jesus had to forgive people who were literally nailing Him to the cross. In that moment, He cried out, “Father forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” This was part of the victory that was won for us on the cross of Calvary! That which was intended to destroy became the very vessel through which the kingdom was extended.

We were unworthy to receive God’s forgiveness. It wasn’t our good works that saved us, but it was the grace and the kindness of God. Even though we had sinned against Him, He shed His blood for us. There can be no higher form of sacrificial love.

Jesus set us up with the power to forgive others through what He did on the cross. The starting point is never what we do for God, but what He has done for us. We have been forgiven much, and now we are called to forgive others. Our freedom and other people’s freedom is unlocked through the master key of forgiveness. This is for everyone. This is for you.

About this Plan

The Keys of the Kingdom

Jesus told His disciples that He would give them the keys of the kingdom. But what are these keys, what is their purpose, and how do we use them? In this 7-day devotional plan from Steve McCracken, discover the difference between logos master keys and rhema individual keys, and be equipped to partner with God’s intention to see His kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven!
