The Keys of the Kingdom

DAY 4 OF 7

‘Prayer and Fasting’ is a logos master key.

There is something profound and deep that happens in the realm of the Spirit as God’s people deny themselves, take up their cross and follow Jesus. Fasting and praying is one of the best ways for us to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice to God. It strikes at the core of self and sets us up for God’s kingdom rule.

The Son of God fasted and prayed for forty days before He started His public ministry. In His famous Sermon on the Mount, Jesus declared the words, “When you fast” and “When you pray”, not “If you fast” and “If you pray”.

When combined together, prayer and fasting is one of the most underused master keys for most Christians. There is a belief that prayer and fasting is for people more spiritual than me. For many, prayer and fasting is what pastors and leaders do, or perhaps it is seen for desperate people in desperate times.

Prayer and fasting is for every believer. It is not just an Old Testament thing, nor only a New Testament thing – it is a Bible thing and a believer thing.

The devil fears the power of God’s children who fast and pray. He knows that this master key causes major damage to his evil plans. In some situations, it is the enemy who is behind the lie that says fasting and praying is not for you.

The master key of fasting and praying unlocks the kingdom authority that every believer is called to walk in. As we fast and pray, our spirit man gets stronger and our flesh gets weaker. As we fast and pray, our ability to hear God’s voice increases and the noise of the enemy decreases. As we fast and pray, something shifts in the realm of the spirit!

God does more in us through times of prayer and fasting than we often experience in normal life. There is an interruption to the status quo and the negative when we pray and fast, and there is an initiation by the Spirit into the deeper realities of God.

Prayer and fasting is a master key that belongs in your hand.
