The Protective Promises of Psalm 91નમૂનો

Day 8: He Shall Give His Angels Charge Over You
One of the greatest promises in Psalm 91 appears in verses 11 and 12. Here, the Bible declares, “For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.”
The words “give…charge” are important in this verse. They are a translation of the Hebrew word meaning to appoint, charge, command, or ordain. It indicates the act of giving an explicit assignment or responsibility which is to be done without negligence. When a master gave such a command to a servant, he would describe the mission explicitly so that it could not be misunderstood.
According to Psalm 91:11, the Lord has given an explicit assignment to angels “...to keep thee in all thy ways.” In Hebrew, the phrase “to keep thee” means to keep; to guard; to preserve; or to watch. It is from a root word meaning to hedge about, which means the angels literally surround those who are dwelling in the shadow of the Most High!
This principle of angelic protection is confirmed in the New Testament as well. Hebrews 1:14 says, “Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?” Isn’t that amazing! Angels are dispatched to minister to every single person who is inheriting salvation.
Jesus Himself said in Matthew 18:10 that every child has angels assigned to them — most likely from birth — and those guardian angels not only protect and assist those children, but they also stand in the very presence of God.
These angels, who have been assigned to assist all of us who are inheriting salvation, are charged “to keep us in all our ways.” The Hebrew of the words “in all” mean all, altogether, in all manner, or in all ways, and combined with the phrase “thy ways,” both the Hebrew and Greek mean in all your roads or courses of life. Hence, on every road of life that you take, angels have been charged by God to protect you, preserve you, and guard you.
Psalm 91:12 says, “They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.” Note the phrase “they shall bear thee up.” It is a translation of the Hebrew word meaning to advance, bring forth, carry, or lift up. What’s interesting here is that angels are not only assigned to hold us up in their hands but also bring us forth and cause us to advance.
Now, as you are being carried, the angel’s job is to keep you from dashing your foot against a stone. The phrase “dash thy foot” in Hebrew means to dash, gore, hurt, stumble, strike, or stub, all of which sounds very painful. The words “against a stone” denote an encumbrance, like a stone, that has been set in your way. Hence, the angels will keep you from stumbling in the calamities that the enemy throws in your way.
These two verses reveal that angels are explicitly commanded to accompany, defend, and preserve those who dwell in the shadow of the Almighty. If necessary, angels will even turn your steps in another direction and reroute you to avoid danger. If you’re abiding in the shadow of the Almighty, they’ve been charged to carefully watch over all your interests and ways, so trust that you can walk in spiritual protected confidence!
For Your Consideration:
- Prior to this lesson, what did you know about angels? What are some misconceptions you had that you now recognize?
- Did you know that God has specifically assigned angels the responsibility to watch over, protect, and preserve you (see Psalm 91:11,12)? Were you aware of Jesus’ sobering words in Matthew 18:10 about the work of guardian angels with our children? How do these verses give you hope?
