The Protective Promises of Psalm 91નમૂનો

Day 1: Dwelling in the Shadow of the Almighty
Psalm 91 is powerful, and it plays a vital part in our lives as believers — especially in these last days. According to historical sources, this scripture was written by Moses when the children of Israel were wandering through the wilderness for 40 years after God had delivered them from Egypt. They had been enslaved in Egypt for 400 years, and through many supernatural signs and wonders, the One True God defeated the gods of Egypt and set His people free to worship and serve Him.
When the Israelites entered the wilderness, their walk of faith truly began. For the first time, they were confronting things like wild animals, ferocious beasts, snakes, and scorpions, and they had to daily trust God for provision of water and food. That’s when Moses wrote this psalm, which begins by saying, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” (Psalm 91:1).
The word “dwelleth” in the original Hebrew here means to dwell, to lodge, to take up residency, or to move into a place and stay there permanently. It depicts a person who has taken up permanent residency in one place, in this case the secret place of the Most High.
The Hebrew word for “secret place” describes an inner chamber, a place of concealment, a hiding place, or a place of secrecy. It denotes the most secret compartment. This lets us know that there is a secret place in the Lord, and it is a place where those who fear and walk with Him are concealed and hidden in His presence.
As believers in Christ, we know that our secret place is in Him. Again and again, the New Testament says we are “in Christ” or “in Him,” and the original Greek text literally says we are “locked up within the Person of Jesus.” We can’t get tucked away in God any deeper than being in Christ.
We must understand this statement, because this verse tells us that it is the foundational condition for activating and taking hold of God’s promises in Psalm 91. When you choose to take up permanent residency in the Most High, this verse says, “... [You] shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
The phrase “shall abide” means to abide, dwell, lodge, or reside. When you’re abiding, you are relaxed and enjoying your place in Christ Jesus, and the fact that the Bible says we abide in the shadow of the Almighty is significant.Think about it: In order to walk in someone’s shadow, you have to be very close to him. If he moves, you have to move with him, and you must move in the same direction at the same pace. Otherwise, you will soon be out of his shadow.
When you’re walking in the shadow of the Lord, you’re abiding in the One who has the ability to overcome any evil entity or force that would ever try to assault your life. Therefore, if you walk close to the Lord, He will be a refuge and a hiding place to you. In Him, you shall abide under the defense and protection of the Almighty.
Take your time and really absorb what this means, because it is the foundation to receiving all the following promises of Psalm 91. Not everyone can lay claim to these verses; only those who permanently dwell in the secret place and abide close to the Lord are eligible to inherit these divine promises.
For Your Consideration:
- Did you know that Jesus is the HEAD over all power and authority? That is what the name “Most High” (Elyon) means, and it is closely connected with the name “Almighty” (Shaddai), which means Great Provider and One Who Overpowers everything and everyone else. How does knowing you are in Christ, the Supreme One over everything, encourage your faith and give you hope?
- How are you dwelling in God today and abiding in His shadow?
