God Sees the Lowly

Mary’s song (often called the Magnificat) isn’t just a beautiful poem. It’s a powerful declaration about the kind of God we serve. In it, she celebrates how God sees the lowly, lifts up the humble and brings down the proud. Her voice joins the chorus of generations who have trusted that God is close to the brokenhearted and attentive to the forgotten.

This young woman from an obscure village believed that God’s promises were true — not just for nations but for her personally. And through her, God brought his Son into the world.

Psalm 113 echoes this same heart. God is exalted above the heavens, but he bends low to raise the poor and seats them with the honored. What a picture of grace.

Christmas reminds us that no one is overlooked in God’s story. He sees the unseen. He honors the humble. And he invites us to do the same.
