Philippians - Life in Jesus

DAY 3 OF 4

Context

The church in Philippi was divided over false teachers. On one side were the Judaizers, who believed that all Christians must obey the Law, whether they were Jews or Gentiles. For them, salvation was obtained through faith in Jesus and obedience to Jewish laws.

On the other hand, there was a group of heretics who claimed that there was no longer any moral law that Christians had to obey. All that was required for salvation was to believe in Jesus Christ. The biblical truth lies somewhere in between. Christians are not required to keep the Law of Moses, but they are called to live in holiness (1 Peter 1:14-16) and to fulfill the law of Christ (Matthew 22:37-40). Paul offers them his personal example of a believer who does not place his hope in the works of the law, but is mindful of his way of life and is dedicated to the process of transformation that God has begun in him.

Meditate

In this chapter, Paul offers himself as a role model. He was a man who had all the privileges of his time, but he left them behind for Christ. In his faith, Paul did not treat things superficially, but was dedicated to running toward his goal, which is Jesus. Living such a life allowed Paul to say, "Follow me."

What kind of life are you living? What kind of example are you setting for those around you? People are watching you, and some will learn from the way you live your life. If people were to follow your example, where would they end up? Can you say that your life is leading people to Jesus?

Pray

Entrust everything you do to the Lord and ask Him to guide you, asking Him for the strength and determination to follow the path He has prepared for you. Pray that you may live with integrity so that your life may bring honor to God and be an example worth following for those around you.
