On the Flip SideEsimerkki

"The pretty one." "Voted most likely to succeed." "The school track star." All these and more are some of the things we wish people said about us, aren't they? But what if there's more to the story? What if there is another way to see things? Even if we say we follow Jesus, our values can often be shaped by those around us rather than the Bible. The same thing was true about people thousands of years ago, like the Corinthians.
Paul reminds the church in Corinth that in the kingdom of God and as a follower of Jesus, the things that get valued highest by society today may not be the things that we should value. While society may look at things like physical beauty, money, possessions, and intelligence as what's most valued, God wants us to value things like humility, love, gentleness, and generosity.
As you go through your day today, think about what you truly value and get curious about what God values. How can you add those to your list?

Jesus wasn’t exactly known for telling people what they wanted to hear. Jesus didn’t give feel-good sermons. He flipped people’s ideas about God, the world, and themselves upside down — usually in uncomfortable ways. In this 20-day devotional series from Grow Curriculum, we'll compare how Jesus challenged the religious leaders and what God says in the Old Testament on what’s wrong or right, good or bad, and just or unjust.
