### Day 1: Never Alone
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: âThe virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuelâ (which means âGod with usâ). Matthew 1.22-23 NIV
âAnd surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.âMatthew 28.16-20 NIV
Matthewâs Gospel starts and ends with the same promise: Matthew wants us to see that everything Jesus did â even his name â was to show one thing. Through Jesus, God is with us.
So many things can get in the way of us remembering that Jesus really is always with us, but forgetting that he is, and believing we are alone, can make our lives so much more difficult.
We can notice an important difference between the beginning of Matthewâs gospel and the end. At the start, it is a prophet speaking about God being with us. At the end, it is God himself speaking directly to us, telling us that He is with us. Sometimes we try to live our relationship with God based on what someone else says about Jesus, and thatâs okâŠas a start; even the Gospel of Matthew starts there. But, transformation comes when we start to listen and hear Jesus speaking himself. We move from âGod is with youâ to âI am with youâ.
We can still call Jesus âImmanuelâ because he is still with us just as he promised. We are never alone.
