Believing that there is a God that exists, does not necessarily tell us who that God is, or what He expects from us. That is why God gave us the Bible. The Bible is God’s specific words to mankind. God has revealed to us exactly who He is, through the pages of Scripture.
Many religions during Bible-times were passed down by word of mouth from generation to generation. The problem with oral history is that each time it is passed down, the history becomes less accurate, like a generational game of telephone!
This is why God instructed men to write down His exact words, which would then be meticulously copied. Writing down the Words of God would ensure that the words would not be changed between generations.
It is through the written Scripture that we know what God is like and how we can be like Him!
